A new version of an old recipe (and so much easier!) Gratuitous dog photos, of course. And where to find all of my delicious, plant-based holiday recipes.
Thanks! This looks divine to me, no matter what you call it. Great work! I was a fan of the blog from its earliest days. You were fine then without the heavy camera, and you’ve still clearly got such a great eye. I can’t tell you how happy I am to reconnect!
Oh my friend, you make me laugh. Your writing style is what inspired me to start my own blog over 10 years ago - so we are both "old" lol.
As for the recipe - I use the recipe box plugin from my blog and "print" a pdf version of the ingredients and instructions - then attach that by dragging and dropping. Seems to work well.
I’m so glad I made you laugh, Chuck! Not everyone gets my humor, but now I know there are two of us. 😀
I’ll have to give some thought to the pdf print option. I don’t use that plugin, but I’m sure I have ways of making a pdf somewhere on my computer or iPad. I just have to remember where...
I never thought about there being frozen butternut squash so I routinely just skipped over recipes that had them because, like you said, they are too difficult to cut. So good to know. And the recipe looks really good. Thanks for that too. And you must tell me what breed of dog is that darling little black one. What a cutie! He or she could have their own you tube channel or substack or whatever other pets have in social media that brings their owners riches and fun.
Salem is 85% Pomeranian and 15% Chihuahua, according to Embark breed testing. He’s a real sweetheart and makes friends very quickly. And he knows a couple of tricks. The dogs have their own Facebook page, which I have neglected shamefully. I’ll have to post some video of Salem shaking hands and catching food in midair.
Thank you, Susan, for blogging again. Life definitely has its twists and turns. I'm one of those people who needs to print out recipes, otherwise it is me struggling to read a recipe on my phone as it times out. Or, more likely, trying to find it in the first place (either phone or recipe). I love your little recipe testers and floor cleaners.
Where I live, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are not close to me but many fruit and vegetable stores are and some supermarkets. I agree with you on peeling squash and the consequences. We can get peeled fresh squash here. Sometimes I prefer using sweet potatoes, but peeling and chopping those is like working with a misshapen brick. I'm looking forward to what you send next!
I love that you worked through the blood, sweat, and tears and relearned your program. I love that you found easier ways to do things, and shared them with us. I love your dogs! And I love your food and recipes, but.mostly your honesty. Thank you!
I loved your writing! I'll try the recipe very soon! I started following you and making your recipes in 2012, when I went vegan with hubby😉. To this day some of your recipes are our staples and others I make but not as often. Thank you for all you do🙏🏼❣️
Susan, so good to have your blog back. When we became vegans years ago, it was your blog that made that transition possible. Your recipes are my go-to always!! Thanks for sharing those and keep cooking!!
The blood, the sweat, the tears, indeed - I had a mishap the other day peeling potatoes - for the first time?! Coincidentally, I already had a bandaid on another hand from an eager, playful cat, looking like a cooking show contestant then with two bandages in the kitchen. Anyhoo, I have a second freezer full of frozen veg these days for the winter months and remote living - and give the frozen butternut squash props!! The jalapeno on top is seriously inviting!!
Sounds delicious. If I only had frozen squash and canned beans.
Next grocery trip?
Haven’t found them in Tokyo and too lazy to do it from scratch
Yeahy! Totally making this soon! Look forward to the new holiday recipe!

Thank you so much! iPhones these days practically take the photos themselves. I might never go back to the Canon.
Good job getting back to posting. VERY cute dogs!!
Thank you! They’re my babies, my constantly hungry babies. 😂

Susan, you are the one food blogger that I read. All others I jump to the recipe, sometimes I go back to read, like BNV.
Thank you for coming back.
That makes me so happy to hear!

I love reading your blogs and recipes. Thanks for sharing them. And I absolutely love those spice jars!
I enjoy seeing photos of your fur kids. I'll bet they like to "help" you in the kitchen.
